About St Theresa’s Convent School

Discover our history, our values, and our commitment to providing quality Catholic education from Grade 00 to Grade 7.

Welcome to the STC family.

St Theresa’s Convent School is a Holy Family Catholic Independent School in Coronationville, providing quality education from Grade 00 to Grade 7. We are committed to nurturing the academic, spiritual, social, and emotional development of every learner in a caring and supportive environment where faith and excellence go hand in hand.

As a Catholic school, our learners are encouraged to grow in knowledge, character, and compassion through a balanced education rooted in Gospel values. We form part of the Holy Family Schools, are affiliated with the Catholic Institute of Education, and are registered with the Gauteng Department of Education as an Independent Catholic School accredited by Umalusi.

Our History

The story of St Theresa’s Convent School began in 1887, when the Holy Family Sisters established St Theresa’s School in Fox Street, Johannesburg. Just two years later, in 1889, the school relocated to President Street, where it continued to grow under the guidance of the Holy Family Sister

In 1949, the school entered a new chapter when it relocated to Coronationville after the Church secured a new site for its continued growth. For 77 years, the Coronationville campus has remained at the heart of the local community, providing generations of learners with a quality Catholic education.

In 1952, the girls-only high school was transformed into a co-educational primary school, broadening educational opportunities for children in the area. Over the decades that followed, St Theresa’s continued to flourish, earning a reputation for academic excellence, strong Catholic values, and a caring, family-centred environment.

The school entered another important phase of development in 1995, when new buildings were erected to accommodate its growing community. In November 2017, Little Flowers, the school’s Early Childhood Development Phase, was officially opened, extending quality Catholic education to even younger learners.

Today, St Theresa’s Convent School proudly welcomes learners from Grade 00 to Grade 7. As a Holy Family Catholic Independent School, we continue to provide a nurturing environment where faith, academic excellence, and holistic development remain at the heart of everything we do.

Our Catholic Identity

As a Holy Family Catholic Independent School, our faith is at the heart of everything we do. Guided by Gospel values, we nurture learners spiritually as well as academically, encouraging compassion, respect, integrity, and service to others.

Religious Education forms an important part of school life. Learners participate in prayer, liturgical celebrations, and school Masses, while our chapel provides a sacred space for reflection and worship. Through faith, we strive to develop young people who lead with kindness, live with purpose, and make a positive contribution to their communities.
