Our school introduced Coding & Robotics into the curriculum in 2024, recognising the importance of equipping learners with the skills needed for an increasingly digital world. By implementing the programme ahead of the national rollout, our teachers were able to build experience, develop resources, and establish a strong foundation for quality teaching.
This early adoption ensured that we were fully prepared for the Foundation Phase CAPS implementation in 2026, and we are ready for the Grade 4 CAPS rollout in 2027. Today, learners benefit from a structured programme that develops computational thinking, problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, and digital literacy from Grade 00 through to Grade 7.

Grade 00-2
Learners explore coding and robotics through unplugged activities that develop computational thinking, sequencing, pattern recognition, and problem-solving. Using hands-on resources such as LEGO, learners collaborate with their classmates while building creativity and logical thinking.
Grade 3 learners continue with unplugged Coding & Robotics lessons led by their class teacher while also beginning computer-based coding during a second weekly lesson. Using ScratchJr and other age-appropriate coding platforms, they develop programming skills, computational thinking, and confidence with technology.
Grade 4-6
Using Scratch, learners develop increasingly complex programs while learning sequencing, debugging, logical thinking, and computational problem-solving. They also build digital skills through internet research, digital citizenship, and Microsoft Office applications.
Grade 7
Learners extend their coding knowledge while developing practical technology skills through research, Microsoft Office applications, computer literacy, CAD drawing, and responsible digital citizenship, preparing them for high school and beyond.
